The First Christmas Without a Loved One

Image
On December 25, 2016 I was thinking about this Christmas was the first one that I celebrated with my family without my dad there.   I had been thinking about that on and off during early December.   I didn’t know how it would be as this was a first for me and my family.   I was thinking of some of my extended family as they lost their mother this year, my Nanny (grandmother).   At the same time, I had a close friend of mine who also lost a loved one this year.   I knew we would be going through the same thing, which caused me to pray for each of them. As my hubby and I drove to my brother’s place for Christmas we listened to Christmas music in the car.   I found that helped me as I always enjoy the songs being played.   I knew that the way my dad was he could add a bit to the stress of having family all together, but I had a feeling I’d still miss him.   When we got to my brother’s place I was glad to see everyone as we generally only get...

Winter and Snow

Image
I was thinking on December 18, 2016 that when it comes to winter I find it can be a friend at times as well as a bit of a bully.   One day it’s sunny and there’s fluffy snow outside, and the next day it’s super cold and the moment the wind hits your body it feels like it burns any skin that is exposed.   You may think then that winter is an awful season with how bitter cold it gets, but I find when you think through a child’s mind you may see it differently. I remember when I was a kid I always got excited when winter was coming.   I was the child that would run outside in the middle of winter with just my shorts and short sleeve shirt on.   I know that sounds pretty crazy, but to me snow was one of the most amazing things ever.   Of course, the moment any teacher or parent saw that I was under dressed, they would bring me back inside to change me into my snow pants, hat, gloves, boots, and scarf.   I can understand why children can’t be bothered t...

Light in the Darkness

This past Friday on December 9, 2016 I decided to mail off some greeting cards at the post office.  There was a long line-up, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the line move quickly as most of the people ahead of me were only picking up packages.  When it was my turn, I was quickly processed and because of the extra time I had when I was finished, I decided to go for a walk. I decided to walk in the park that my husband and I often run in as it was close to the post office.  I remembered that the last time we went for a run, the pathway we would normally run down was closed off as they were doing repairs to it.  In my curiosity, I decided to see if the repairs had been finished.  It turned out they were done, so I decided to walk down the hill where the pathway led. I had been feeling very stressed out lately and had felt that I had wanted to go for a walk for a little while.  Even though it was cold outside I didn’t mind, as I had winter clothes on...

When the need is more important than the want

Image
On December 3, 2016 I was thinking during this season of the year I find that a lot of people are buying things that they want instead of what they need.   I understand how parents want to get their kids exactly what they ask for, but often after they get the toy for the child, the child ends up being disinterested in it a couple hours later.   Wanting things isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but knowing when the need is greater than the want is the important thing. Sometimes a need can be obvious such as if you only have enough money to buy food or to go to the movie theatre, you ought to choose food as it will sustain you.   Other times it can be harder to choose between buying new clothes for yourself or to buy a gift for a loved one on their birthday. On the other hand sometimes a need will come in a form of a person.   I have a couple of friends that don’t live near me, and even one that doesn’t live in the same country as me and I would give anything to...

People in and out of our lives

Image
On November 27, 2016 when I think over my life I can think of some people that were either in my life for a short time or were in and out of my life at different times.   I think that there is a reason for each person that comes into our lives.   God sends some people to help change us, while others are there to support us in our trying times. When I was younger I had a best friend; we did everything together as she lived so close by.   She never made fun of me when I would sometimes mispronounce words.   She was a true friend who always chose me first whenever we had to do something for class.   At the same time I was the same type of friend to her.   She had been teased a lot when she was young and I never believed what the bullies said about her.   I knew she was a loyal friend and I realized I needed her as much as she needed me. By the time we started middle school, our friendship had changed a bit and she ended up moving away.   I...

1 Year Blogging

Image
On November 18, 2016 I had been thinking I can hardly believe that’s it’s already been one year since I started this blog.   The idea came to me while I was going for a run a year ago.   It’s pretty cool how God can meet us in so many different places.   While God was encouraging me through a hard run, He opened my heart to other things He had to say to me, such as writing a blog. When I started Pearce the Heart I had a few post topics in mind such as the different things that I have struggled with.   Later I found at times I didn’t know what to write about and I would wait and listen to see what God wanted me to write.   It turned out that quite frequently it was those posts people responded to the most.   I think it’s likely because He knew that’s what they needed to hear. I went for a walk with my husband this past Thursday and was amazed how it could be so warm in the middle of November.   I really loved seeing all the trees around the ...

Number Birthday

Image
On November 11, 2016 I started off my birthday differently this year.   A close friend of mine decided on her birthday to run her age in Kilometres and later in the year she also decided to run a friend’s birthday’s age in distance.   She suggested I run or walk my birthday age on my birthday.   I knew that walking or running my full age would be too much for me, so I decided to do a smaller version of my running age. I turned 31 years old recently and decided with my husband to run 3.1 KM.   I regularly run 5KM, so I knew that I could run that distance pretty easily.   The really cool thing is that my friend that lives on the other side of the country said that she would run the same distance as I would in remembrance of me.   It turned out to be a cold and windy day here when I went for the run on my birthday.   I didn’t mind the weather as I had my hubby running beside me and I was excited to be running my age divided by ten. I decided to...
