Appreciating the blessing in our lives

Image
On June 24, 2016 I was thinking I find that throughout my life there have been times when I feel like I am getting more blessings in my life than other times.   I also think that some of those times when I believed there to be less blessings, I may have ignored the subtler blessings in my life. The more obvious blessings that most people would notice are getting presents on your birthday, having a great family, finding an amazing spouse, having an awesome pet, having an incredible job, etc.   These are all wonderful things, but sometimes we forget the little things like bumping into a friend you haven’t seen in a long time, paying off a credit card on time, finding your favourite shirt cleaned by your loved one when you needed it, to name a few. I have more recently started to notice that I have had a lot more positive things happen to me than I realized.   Most of my life I have focused on the negative situations that have come up for me.   In those negat...

Fathers

Image
On June 20, 2016 I decided to write about fathers.  Fathers can have many different professions from being a doctor, teacher, pastor, manager, stay at home father, and many other types of jobs.  Depending on what work your father does can define what type of lifestyle you will grow up in. If a child has a father that has passed away early on or he never was there to start with, then often the mother has to do both jobs of being a father and a mother.  In these cases, often another male will become their role model of what a father is.  This could be a brother, uncle, youth leader, teacher etc. I have noticed over the years that no father is the same, which would make sense as no family is the same.  I knew a pastor’s family that had three daughters and the whole family was very close.  Often when a child grows into their teen years they start to pull away from their parents more, but I noticed this family was as close as ever.  I remember one time ...

Mercy

Image
On June 13, 2016 I decided to make this post about Mercy.   I first heard about Mercy through my best friend.   It is the Christian residential program I mentioned in my previous post.   Even though she had not gone to Mercy herself she had heard that it had been helpful for a lot of young women like me that were struggling.   At the time when she had suggested Mercy I wasn’t up for staying at a place for 6 months or more to get help.   Also it turned out it was only in USA originally and I wasn’t willing to leave my country to get better. By the time I finished college in 2009 I had changed my mind about Mercy.   I realized that if I wanted to get better it would be the place to go to.   One thing that was great was that it was free of charge so I never had to worry about saving up money for it.   I was glad to know even though I struggled with a lot of issues they could help me with all of it at one place.   There are only young wo...

Self-Harm

Image
On June 3, 2016 I decided to write about self-harm.   Most people do not understand how someone could intentionally hurt themselves, as that means that they are causing themselves pain.   I find that people that have resorted to self-harm usually do not automatically choose that as their first coping mechanism.   It is often something that they fell into when life continues to become more difficult. I understand this as I first started self-harming when I was a teenager and did not stop until my late 20s.   If someone had told me when I was 11 years old that at 13 years old, I’d be cutting myself, I wouldn’t believe them.   Logically I would think why would anyone want to harm themselves as it’s painful.   By the time I started I wasn’t thinking logically about the physical pain anymore. At the age of 13 I was in a lot of emotional pain.   My eating disorder had already started a year before and I still wasn’t coping enough to get through t...

Meeting my future husband part 2

Image
On May 30, 2016 I decided to finish writing about my future husband, which people have been waiting for… of how I first met Nathan in person!   I can understand from other people's perspective that since I met Nathan online I should have been a lot more cautious when it comes to meeting him in person.   I even had a friend of mine suggest I bring mace, hehe.   To be honest I wasn’t worried as I sensed he was a trustworthy guy.   I only had the normal nervousness of actually meeting him for the first time.   Nathan never knew what I looked like besides the description of what my profile said about me. I was really touched that he would want to meet me not because of what I looked like but from the type of person I was.   It made me realize Nathan was really special as not all guys would want to go out with a girl solely on their personality.   I decided to do this cute thing. I had a pass which I could access the whole transit, which meant I ...

Meeting my future husband part 1

Image
On May 23, 2016 at this point I’m sure that there are some of you who have been reading my blog that want to know more about my hubby who I’ve mentioned in previous posts.   I’ve decided to let you hear about how I first met him. Back in October 2013 I hadn't dated in 5 years and 8 months and the last guy I had dated previously wasn't the greatest.   I told God awhile ago that when I felt ready - which I had a few months before then - the next guy I date I want to be ‘the one.’ I didn't want to date a bunch of guys and not have it work out. It knew it wouldn't be good for me. So I decided to look into online dating in August 2013 and the first site I found was Christian Mingle, but when I found out that it would cost money I decided not to go with it. I tried a free one, but I didn't find that many nice guys. My best friend met her husband online and she was the one who suggested online dating to me.   I went and saw my best friend in the first week of October...

Blizzard

Image
On May 16, 2016 my husband and I have been getting back into running again with the weather getting warmer.   We’ve been going every other day this past week.   I found that some of the runs have been quite hard, while others have been easier.   We noticed after I had cake and ice cream the night before one of my good runs that sugar may have been a factor for me.   We decided to do an experiment by having a Dairy Queen ice cream Blizzard the evening before our morning run.   We wanted to see if the sugary dessert would help me have more energy for my run.   A run I had earlier in the week I didn’t have much sugar the day before and I was exhausted by the end of the run in the morning. We had a nice carby meal of perogies for dinner and then we looked online with Dairy Queen’s Blizzard menu.   There was a bunch of different flavours you could choose from.   The nice thing about the site was that it also gave nutritional info about what ...
