People in and out of our lives

Image
On November 27, 2016 when I think over my life I can think of some people that were either in my life for a short time or were in and out of my life at different times.   I think that there is a reason for each person that comes into our lives.   God sends some people to help change us, while others are there to support us in our trying times. When I was younger I had a best friend; we did everything together as she lived so close by.   She never made fun of me when I would sometimes mispronounce words.   She was a true friend who always chose me first whenever we had to do something for class.   At the same time I was the same type of friend to her.   She had been teased a lot when she was young and I never believed what the bullies said about her.   I knew she was a loyal friend and I realized I needed her as much as she needed me. By the time we started middle school, our friendship had changed a bit and she ended up moving away.   I...

1 Year Blogging

Image
On November 18, 2016 I had been thinking I can hardly believe that’s it’s already been one year since I started this blog.   The idea came to me while I was going for a run a year ago.   It’s pretty cool how God can meet us in so many different places.   While God was encouraging me through a hard run, He opened my heart to other things He had to say to me, such as writing a blog. When I started Pearce the Heart I had a few post topics in mind such as the different things that I have struggled with.   Later I found at times I didn’t know what to write about and I would wait and listen to see what God wanted me to write.   It turned out that quite frequently it was those posts people responded to the most.   I think it’s likely because He knew that’s what they needed to hear. I went for a walk with my husband this past Thursday and was amazed how it could be so warm in the middle of November.   I really loved seeing all the trees around the ...

Number Birthday

Image
On November 11, 2016 I started off my birthday differently this year.   A close friend of mine decided on her birthday to run her age in Kilometres and later in the year she also decided to run a friend’s birthday’s age in distance.   She suggested I run or walk my birthday age on my birthday.   I knew that walking or running my full age would be too much for me, so I decided to do a smaller version of my running age. I turned 31 years old recently and decided with my husband to run 3.1 KM.   I regularly run 5KM, so I knew that I could run that distance pretty easily.   The really cool thing is that my friend that lives on the other side of the country said that she would run the same distance as I would in remembrance of me.   It turned out to be a cold and windy day here when I went for the run on my birthday.   I didn’t mind the weather as I had my hubby running beside me and I was excited to be running my age divided by ten. I decided to...

Self-Worth

Image
On November 4, 2016 I was thinking that we are often brought up to learn from a very young age that the only way for you to succeed in life is when you have accomplished something or are exceptional at something.   We are told that you need to graduate from high school, go to college or university and become a career person.   If you happen to not succeed in these things society deems you a failure.   I find that society thinks that being smart, getting good marks, making a bunch of money and other things of that nature are what brings happiness in life. What about the people that don’t measure up to these standards of society?   What can happen is that they start to think less of themselves – they start to lower their standards of what they expect of themselves in their life.   It can even come to the point that they feel they are completely worthless. I was one of those people at one point.   I remember when I was younger I thought if I just tr...

A Taste for Life

Image
On Oct. 27, 2016, I participated in an event called ‘A Taste for Life’ put on by the National Eating Disorder Information Centre.   A little while ago I mentioned in a post about being photographed by a professional photographer for an event that was going to happen a couple months later – this is the event my picture was going to be used for. I decided to go to the event to find out more about the centre as well as to see how the photography project turned out.   The day before the event I suddenly got a lot of pain in my upper back.   It was just after I woke up in the morning.   Part of me was quite anxious about going to the event as my husband couldn’t come and knowing I didn’t know anyone there I almost decided not to go due to my nerves. By the morning of the event the next day my back was starting to feel better.   I still had slight pain, but at least it wasn’t all the time.   I felt I had no excuse not to go, so I went.   When I go...

Our 2nd Wedding Anniversary

Image
On October 18, 2016 I was thinking that I find when it comes to celebrations with my husband I get super excited – both the night before and, of course, the day of.   I remember on his birthday I was just anticipating what he would think of the gift I got him as well as the card I bought him.   It was the same for our second wedding anniversary. I often try to stay up until midnight to start off those days by sending off Facebook messages, texts, emails, and sometimes even phone calls if I’m not near by.   Suddenly my hubby’s phone is inundated with lots of messages from me.   It’s my way of saying ‘I love you.’ The morning of our second anniversary we gave each other cards and, no surprise, my husband found one that made me cry very happy tears.   It really expressed to me how much he appreciates and loves me.   When I gave him my card to him, I also gave him a couple little gifts.   I was looking online to see what the traditional gift is ...

My Book

Image
On October 14, 2016 I was thinking that when I was in elementary school we would be asked by our teacher to make up a short story.   At the time I couldn’t think of one off the top of my head, so in case anyone had writer’s block there was a bunch of photos in a box for people to choose from to be used to make a story up from the photo.   I found at that time that I had to see something to be able to imagine a story. Later in high school when I took writer’s craft I found that it became easier to write.   I often took experiences from my own life and incorporated them into a story or essay.   I didn’t need a picture this time as I had read many books by this point and been to many places which made it easier to write a story. After high school I didn’t do much writing, besides writing in my journal.   When I went to Mercy Canada for help, they often had reflective writing assignments on a teaching video or a book that we read.   One of the staff ...
